The Kansas City Zoo

Normally when we make a trip to the zoo we head to St. Louis. It's the zoo I've always gone too, it's big without being too big, and it's free. But after our last visit on one of Ben's field trips, I was feeling kind of burnt out not to mention a lot of the zoo was under construction limiting what animals we got to see.

A few weekends ago on the perfect weather Sunday, the kids and I headed West instead of East towards the Kansas City Zoo. The KC Zoo was recently remodeled and had a lot of new exhibits including the Polar Bears. The zoo is HUGE. There is lots of walking and it's pretty spread out, but very much built around nature with rolling hills, rivers, lakes, etc. There is also a ski lift ride over "Africa" as well as a boat ride around the lake, which wasn't open while we were there. Due to the size, the zoo offers a tram to get around the park for a small cost and next time I will definitely be taking advantage of that.

The kids had a blast especially Jack who is obsessed with animals right now.
*Note-after seeing these pictures I immediately took the kids to get their hair cut the next day

Not quite sure what to think of that "penguin"

Jack much preferred the real thing!

Ben loved wheeling Jack around in the stroller.

We were all exhausted by the end of the day, but I'm so glad we went before the freezing temperatures settled in.

And in case you ever happen to be in the Midwest, here's my comparison of the different zoos. I don't really favor one over the other and they are both so different. No matter which one you choose, you're sure to have a great time!
