Weekend Recap

Like most of the world, we spent last night trying to see the supermoon lunar eclipse but sadly it was pretty cloudy here. We got to see the beginning of it and we did get about a minute break from the clouds during it, but other than that it was a whole lot of nothing. J and Ben hopped in the car and drove several miles from the house to see if they could get past the clouds but didn't have much luck.

This was our view most of the time.

But I managed to grab a few good pics.

Backing up to Friday afternoon I went to "Johnny Appleseed's birthday party" in Ben's classroom. The kids learned about him all week and then Friday they rotated classrooms and each classroom did different activities, crafts, games, etc. Have I mentioned how much I LOVE his new school and in particular his teacher?!?

Saturday morning we were up and at em. We grabbed some donuts and stopped on the way back to our car to cheer on some half marathon runners who happened to be passing by downtown at the moment we were leaving the donut shop. Oh the irony. Jack loved clapping and yelling, "go go go."

After donuts we headed to an event at a local farm owned and put on by the University of Missouri. This is the second year we've gone and we had such a blast. Here's a few pics, but I'll be doing a full re-cap later.

I finally busted out the vest and boots since temps were in the low 60's in the morning, but in true MO form I was sweating to death by the afternoon when temps were back up in the 80's.

After the farm we enjoyed lunch on the patio at our favorite brewery and then came home and worked on staining the deck. When that whole project is finished I'll be so.freakin.glad. I've been making sure to take pics as we've gone along so I'll post those soon once it's done or winter's here. Whichever comes first.

Sunday we I cleaned up the house and ran some errands before heading up for dinner at J's aunt's house. There's a park down the road from her house that does train rides and we took the last ride of the season with J's mom, brother, and the boys' cousin.

And last but not least...I got to pick out an early birthday present:) It's the perfect size and I'm in love with this color for fall/winter.

This week is sure to be busy with lots of meetings, an overnight work trip, and then J and I are heading to the Windy City this weekend for my big 3-0! Have a great Monday!!

Fall Bucket List 2015

Like everyone else I just love fall. My birthday kicks off the month of October then it's pumpkin patches, Halloween, and Thanksgiving. And although I definitely don't want to rush time, I think there's less than 100 days until Christmas. Eek!!

But before I get too carried away with myself, here's some things I'm excited to do this fall.

//Visit Tanganykia Wildlife Park// *repeat from Summer

//Go apple picking and make a homemade apple pie//

//Celebrate my big 3-0//

//Visit the pumpkin patch//

//Roast S'mores by the "fire"//

//Dress the boys in matching Halloween pjs and take way too many pictures//

//Carve pumpkins//

//Decorate our house with all things Fall//

//Take new pictures of our family in the fall leaves//

//Buy a few new fall wardrobe staples//

//Make a new fall wreath//

//Make a new soup in the crockpot//

And in case you missed a recap of our Summer Bucket List, you can check that out here.

Friday, Friday

First of all I want to say THANK YOU to everyone who sent sweet thoughts, prayers, and condolences on the loss of my father in-law. His funeral was Tuesday and the thing we heard from people over and over again was what a self-less and kind person he was and it is so true. We are slowly getting back into the routine of things around here and there's a sense of peace that we didn't have before. God is good all the time.

Now let's get to my 5 from this week!

//one//
I may not like the PSL or any other pumpkin flavored food for that matter, but it doesn't mean I don't love the smell of it. Bath and Body Works knows how to do fall scents and I stocked up to make sure both my house and my hands smell like the season.

//two//
When J's dad was still in the hospital, he and his brother stayed there with his mom the last couple of nights. My brother in law is a single dad so I kept my niece last weekend so he could be at the hospital. We were a circus going through the Dunkin Donuts drive thru lane. And because I obviously don't have a girl, I took full advantage when my niece agreed to let me straighten her hair. Doesn't she look SO cute. She kept calling it her princess hair.

//three//
A Chick-Fil-A finally opened in our town and as usual the nuggets did not disappoint. The line wasn't too bad despite people camping out the night before the opening. wtf. And I'm not sure if it was because it was opening week or we had a little bit of a wait, but we also got a free gift card for breakfast. Go us.

//four//
This might be TMI if you're not a parent, but Jack's been a peeing in the potty maniac. He gets a fun size piece of candy every time he goes so even if he doesn't really need to go, he'll squeeze out a few drops just to get candy. Unfortunately he learned the hard way that unlike M&M's, Kit Kats melt in your hand just as much as they do in your mouth. At least it wasn't poop. #positiveparenting

//five//
I'm kind of obsessed with vests and have been pining different ways to wear them this fall and winter. The great thing is I already have almost everything needed to complete these looks, but I would have never thought to put certain things together.

Have a great weekend!

How'd We Do? {Summer Bucket List Update}

Since Summer is almost officially over I thought I'd let you all know how we did on our Summer Bucket List before I show you what we hope to do this Fall.

/Visit 2 state parks//
Not a great way to start off the list, but hopefully we'll get to explore some this fall once the temperatures cool down.

//Eat lots & lots of shaved ice//

//Attend the 4th of July Festival at our Capital//

//Swim lessons for the boys//
We didn't do official lessons, but Ben did learn to swim on his own including jumping off the diving board.

//Mini Vacation in Branson//

//Finish sanding and staining our deck//
Anybody want to come do this for us?

//Explore and swim at Fugitive Beach//

//Cheer Ben on in the Mud Run Jr.//

//Spend lots of time at the pool//

//Get our ride on at Six Flags//
Done but no picture

//Have a water balloon fight//

//Celebrate J's birthday//
Obviously this was done, but for some reason I can't find a single picture from it:(

//Enjoy drinks and apps on our new patio furniture after the kids go to bed//
Got the new furniture and sat on it a few times, but no apps or drinks-so half credit on this one?

//Visit Tanganykia Wildlife Park//
This one will be repeated on the Fall list. It's definitely a must do!

10/14...not too bad.

Remembering

Earlier this week I wrote a little bit about my father in law. He passed away on Saturday night from stage 4 colon cancer. It was less than 3 weeks from when he was first diagnosed to when he passed. If that doesn't make you appreciate time, life, and your family I don't know what will.

Please say a prayer or a few this week especially for my husband and his family as we remember and celebrate the life of a great man.

Jack's 2nd Birthday

I'm back tracking a little bit, but I don't want to forget to document this important life moment. Jack turned two on June 21st and we threw an Olaf themed bash. He's still obsessed btw and I think that just may have to be his Halloween costume. I ordered the invitations on ETSY from Once Upon Adorable and I love how they turned out.

Our new neighborhood has a fantastic clubhouse and pool but since we just moved into our new neighborhood, we decided to have the party at our house so family could see the new abode. The move also meant that I kept the food and decorations simple and ordered some water balloons and a slipe n slide off Amazon for the kids (and adults) to play with.

Jack was just so tickled when everyone started singing Happy Birthday to him. He also thought it was hilarious that he ate Olaf's nose off the cake. He still talks about that to this day.

Enjoying a 2nd piece of cake at his new picnic table.

It took him a few minutes and lots of coaching from the other kids that you slide down the slip n slide and not walk on it.

 Once all the guests left, Jack read his new Olaf book and put on his new Olaf jammies and before we knew it he was passed out from the excitement of the day.

Since his party was on Saturday but his actual birthday was Sunday, we had a small little party for just our family and Jack opened his gifts from us.

I still can't believe our little baby is so grown up. He continues to be just the sweetest little boy and we can't imagine what life would be like without him.
