Memorial Day Weekend 2016

If only all weekends could be this great. And to think of it...minus the extra day, why don't we make all weekends feel like a holiday weekend?

Our weekend started off on Friday night with Ben's baseball game in which it started pouring five minutes into the game. Saturday was the usual grocery shopping and cleaning and I picked up this flag from Target and put it on our mailbox and I'm loving it.

Saturday afternoon I grabbed a margarita with my friend Alissa on a patio and then the night got crazy when I fell asleep at 8:30.

We spent the entire day Sunday with J's mom, brother and his daughter at the annual Salute to Veterans Airshow followed by lunch, swimming, and pizza for dinner.

On Monday we went to the Memorial Day parade with my parents, sister and her family. My niece was in the parade for her high school's color guard and she did such a good job. Later in the day we bbq'd at my parents and the kids splashed around in the sprinkler while the adults enjoyed frosty adult beverages and ate way too much.
My beautiful niece!

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!

Triple Berry Popsicles

If you follow me on Instagram, you've heard me talk about Kathryn from Do It On a Dime several times. I'm obsessed. Kathryn raved about The Dollar Tree's popsicle molds and since my boys can go through an entire box of popsicles in one sitting I thought I'd try them out along with a new recipe.

These Triple Berry Popsicles are not only delicious and COLORFUL, but the molds are awesome especially for a $1. The best part is they have a straw built into the base so as the popsicle starts to melt you can drink the juice. Genius!

What You'll Need:
-Popsicle Molds
-1 quart Blackberries, washed
-1/2 cup Raspberry lemonade
-2 individual serving containers of Strawberry Greek Yogurt
-Ice (to your liking)

Place the berries, lemonade, and yogurt in a blender and blend until smooth. Add ice and blend until smooth and you reach a consistency you prefer. I used about a cup.

Pour the mixture into molds and freeze for ~4 hours.

Remove the popsicles from the molds. If you are having a hard time getting them out run them under a little bit of hot water.

Enjoy! This guy sure did!

Weekend Recap-Brief Edition

Our weekend didn't go quite as planned when Jack got diagnosed with pneumonia Sunday morning after a 4 hour trip to Urgent Care. Before the face masks and antibiotics there was geese feeding, Rose drinking and pizza eating. We rounded out the weekend with Smoothie King and bonus, the kids don't know they hide fruits and vegetables in their smoothies and I'm definitely not telling them.

I'm looking forward to a 3 day weekend and hoping this week flies by...And that my Memorial Day weekend doesn't involve anybody going to the doctor. Happy Monday!

Weekend Recap

This weekend was pretty perfect despite cold, rainy weather which caused Ben's baseball game on Friday night to be cut short when it started down pouring halfway through the game. Anywho, rewinding to earlier in the day, since I had the day off,  Jack and I took Ben lunch to school and got to eat with him in the commons. Jack was so excited to eat at the big school and Ben was so excited to show off his brother.

Saturday was the usual grocery shopping and cleaning house. I prepped all the fruit for this week and I don't know why I don't do this more often. Oh yes I do, I'm lazy. We are so much more likely to eat it and way less gets wasted when all we have to do is grab and eat. Anyone have a tip for keeping strawberries moist once they're cut? I noticed after the first 2 days ours became dry.

Continuing on my organizational binder, all these items got the cut and ended up at the Goodwill.

Saturday afternoon my MIL offered to watch the boys so I grabbed a margarita with my friend Alissa which I failed to document and later that night J and I saw Money Monster. Not the greatest but certainly not the worst. Despite having both Clooney and Roberts, Jack O'Connell gives one of the best performances.

 Sunday we picked up the boys and ate dinner with J's family but not before I watched the documentary Hope For Steve. You'll for sure have a good cry while contemplating if you're really living life like you should be.

And from the importance of life to trivial things... I don't think I showed a picture of these yet, but I picked them up at Nordstrom a couple of weeks ago.  It's my first pair of aviators and at only $12 I won't be too devastated when I inevitably break/lose them.

Friday, Friday

It's been way too long since I've linked up for a Friday post so let's jump right in.

//one//
I picked up this $3 pouch from the Target Dollar Spot and it's perfect for carrying my phone/debit card/random odds and ends to the pool while keeping things nice and dry. And I'm in love with the stripes.

//two//
A couple weekends ago we went on a short weekend trip to St. Louis and ate dinner one night at Cantina Laredo. We've eaten at another location when we were in Branson and had been dreaming about this upscale Mexican ever since. I tried something new and got the steak tacos and I ended up taking off the tortilla and just eating the steak it was that good. If you have one near you you've got to go there!

//three//
While in St. Louis I made sure to stop by Nordstrom and try on this tunic in person. As much as I wanted to love it, it was just ok. I ended up buying it because everybody loves it and I thought it would grow on me, but I'm totally regretting that purchase now.

//four//
Last night J and I picked up dinner from our favorite steak place using the rest of our anniversary gift card and popped open the champagne we didn't drink from our anniversary night. Although it was a random Thursday night with kids screaming and playing in the background, it was a nice little treat and a great reminder to enjoy each day, even the normal ones.

//five//
I recapped Mother's Day here, but totally forgot to mention that J took the boys to pick out flowers for our pots out front (something he does with them every mother's day). They picked out these beautiful roses that are really starting to open up. The color is to die for. #nofilter.

Have a wonderful weekend!!!!

Mother's Day + Exciting News

Happy May! I can't believe this is the first time I've posted this month which happens to be flying by.

I'd like to say that this Mother's Day was the most wonderful day ever but honestly I've had better. The kids were acting crazy and there was little relaxation, but such is the life of mother and Mother's Day is no exception. I did manage to snag one of my favorite pics of the boys but none of me and my mom or mil. oops.

So before you all start wondering if another little fish is on the way, this is not that kind of news. I am happy to share though that I will be starting a new job on Monday where I'll be coordinating a new program at an autism center through our University. I previously worked there before taking my current job and while I'd be lying to say I wasn't a little nervous, I'm excited for the change...and way less travel... and more normal hours. My last day at my job was yesterday so I'm hoping to knock quite a few things off my ever growing to-do list these next couple of days.

My friend Megan gave me this card several years ago and I've always kept it on my desk as a reminder to do what you love and let God handle the rest. She wrote such sweet words inside but my favorite was, "Wherever you land will be right where the Lord needs you." We should all strive to be such an encouraging person and friend.

And while I might not have done such a great job blogging these last couple of weeks, I have been catching up on all of your posts and promise I will get better at commenting and emailing back. Thank you all for sticking around! Happy Hump Day!
